I just read all seven pages. Excellent build. I can't wait to see the pics of you breaking things in on the trail.

Talk to David. He's been my big brother so to speak in the formulation of this build.

So the high steer arms from Solid don't come drilled. I spent a fair amount of time on the phone with Lance at PSC (thanks Lance) and he told me to drill the arms out at 8" in front of the kingpin. So that's what I did.

These arms are stout, you'll want one of these. Even still it's a PITA as the arms were still tough to drill through.

I used a ton of this to keep from killing my bit.

Here's how the engine bay panned out. I had to move the stock coolant reservoir for the hydro reservoir.

I found a small replacement coolant reservoir at the local parts store and it tucked in perfect on the passenger side.

The FIPK (I don't recommend them fwiw) actually still fit despite the coilover crossbar. I did need to cut the back side of the box out a little though.

Front 60 together. I finished the ram mount and the service access for the diff. With the bar out, there's plenty of room to mess with whatever.

Had a little scare on Saturday. Went to put put the cover and fill the diff up when I noticed a screw missing from the ARB. I freaked out and called Daivd at Northridge as well as the ARB rep. Turns out that missing screw is on purpose (it only gets one for c-clip 60s).

Made some major progress the past few days. My rig is finally drivable.

still needs a few things but it runs and drives.

to do list:
straps & bumps (there's a local shop owner here who volunteered his lift on Tuesday to let me stretch it out for clearances)
vent lines & arb lines
zip tie everything
get a new battery

*I will probably need to adjust the steering links a little bit. I don't see any binding but the up angle is a tad more than I had planned on (especially on the short passenger side).

I'm asking cause I want to learn. The ram attahces to the link that goes to the steering arms. It look like in the pic above the link will pivot? What stops them from pivoting? I see hiems on both ends. I'm missing something and the light has not come on!

Nice build!

I'm only doing ram assist in my build but I like learning new stuff.

No he doesnt need a tie-rod with the double ended ram. It is the only thing needed in the steering but those angles on the arms dont look right.

The angles front to rear are fine. When the tires are straight you can have some forward angle. It's when the tires are at full lock that you want to have the ram and linkage straight. Mine do that but the up angle isnt perfect. Ideally the links would not have any vertical angle. Lance at PSC told me some was fine but I'll ask him on Tuesday what he thinks (in the mean time the steering drives better than it ever did before with the stock geometry). Also, it would be more ideal to have the ram centered on the axle. I didnt want to be as tall as it would take to fit the ram dead center of the axle. As a result, my passenger side needed a very short link which increases the angle and appearance.

The ram is straight, but you're right it does look tilted in the pic.

Here's a few pics for steering in case I didnt explain it well.

My rig has roughly about 4" suspension lift (+ or -) over stock and a 1" body lift (with the coilovers in the lowest position--I can go a few inches taller if I decide I need to). As it is set up right now I have just under 5" upward wheel travel. I haven't compared to a stock rig exactly but my friend's TJ on 4.5" RE lift and 1" BL on 33" BFGs is 3.5" shorter than mine on 39.5's.

I'm surprised no one commented on the tires. I must have been tired when I was putting them on as I put the fronts on reversed.

I've learned a lot from this build and so wish i had your building skill sets. Very nice job and look forward to the finished for good version of this thread, LOL. I've thinking about going with Solid Axle Industries under my rig, just can't decide whether to go with King pin or ball joint.

they bite better backwards, that how i run mine now. we did a friends rubicon a few years back with a solid 60 front and those front C's are bassed on dana 70 C's. all i can is wow there huge. nice build and great write up, jason.
