[I'm That Good]   1995 YJ Wrangler | It's a geeky-treasure hunt basically... You key a set of coordinates into the GPS and that will give you the location of the cache. Once you're in the area, you have to find it... It could be anywhere, simple to find, like behind a tree, to as crazy as, inside the tree, burried underground, I've even heard of some being 5+ feet under water... At the same time... You could be out Jeeing somewhere and find something... And decide you wanted to cache it. Registered User 1974 CJ5 | My little family went on our first Geocaching day today, and had a great time! The 3 YO 'found' 3 of the caches and we saw some areas of town we hadn't seen before. Alien Envoy   2007 JK Wrangler | if you are looking for a fun way to really get to know your gps and how to use it, geocaching is the place to start. some are close to your path, road etc. some are ridiculously hard. yeah, its kind of geeky but we always have a cool adventure/story to tell everytime. |

696  2005 TJ Wrangler | When I plan to go out for a hike I always take a look at the geocaching website to see if there are any hidden in the area I'm hiking. It's a great way to explore some of trail terrain and it is great to see what people leave behind and write in the log books. Make sure you bring along something to leave behind. It's a great way to clean out your "junk" drawer. Sometimes I will leave something behind and take something out and bring it to the next cache. You can write a note on the website and people can see where some of their things have traveled to. The other interesting things about it is that they are hidden all across the country, no matter where you go there is sure to be some around. I just realized how dorky this all makes me sound. |

Granted the kids (4, 2, 2) like to grab stuff and trade it back and forth, but it's more about getting out and finding new places. It is a geeky hobby I will admit. I'm from the John Wayne mold of men and I admit it's dorky. But still you see things in your town and abroad that you never would have. Plus if you're like me and you really like maps and/or statistics it is great too. It's fun, you get exercise and you see stuff you wouldn't normally see. Great for the family instead of the TV. |
