wtf, when are they going to show us the 2018 JL

it is mid Aug, and still no reveal for a 2018 model? If they wait much more, like November, then they might as well wait a couple more months and call it a 2019.........
When the first JK was announced they did not wait this long, it was shown early in the year.....
This is BS....

I think I saw something about Oct. or Nov. for the reveal.

I think I also saw something about the first part of the 2018s still being JKs so there will be both JK and JL models sold as 18s.

That's coming from my memory or reading internet hearsay, so take it for what it's worth.

The JL will be publicly revealed at the LA Auto Show at the end of November.

To be fair, the JK wasn't a substantial change to the TJ as the JL will be to the JK. Here's hoping the wait is due to FCA actually doing some thorough testing and quality control, something the JK never had.

Does it really matter what model year it's called? It will happen when it happens. Looks like production will start in late 2017 so there will be JLs rolling off the line with 2017 build dates.

Like already mentioned, it's a completely new vehicle not just a change in model year. It not like they are running down the same line and just changing the model year on the window sticker. Transitions takes time.

What?!

The JK is a totally different vehicle from a TJ!
I don't know how you could even think your statement is true.
The JK wasn't a redesigned TJ at all, it is a totally different animal...

^That is exactly what you said.^

And I still disagree with your statement.

No, you took a portion of my statement out of context and made a completely different statement out of it.

The JK and TJ are the same in the fact they maintain the same general powertrain offering that has been in a Wrangler for 30 years: an engine attached to either an auto or a manual. The YJ fits into that category as well. The JL is different in this regard, offering three powertrains, two of which are a turbo and a diesel, ESS (still on the fence on how much that's gonna help), and Selec-Terrain in non-Rubi models. And, although not a powertrain thing, they're killing the 2-door Sahara, offering a power top, and a roll cage that actually extends all the way through the a-pillar.

So, again, I will reiterate that the JL is more of a change to the JK than the JK was to the TJ. And I stand by that statement. That is absolutely not suggesting, in any way, that the JK itself wasn't a substantial change to the TJ.

The JL will actually be a lot more TJ than JK in many areas, such as the grille, hood, body lines, turn signals returned to the fender flares, and the fold down windshield.

EDIT: Incorrectly stated a single powertrain for the TJ/YJ when there were two. Totally spaced the 2.5L.

FYI - The TJ was offered all years with two engine options.

I still really want to see the press release on the JL and the Jeep truck (whatever the model designater is). I am mostly interested in the truck. I will be in the market for a new tow rig soon and if they put the same eco diesel in the Jeep truck that they use in the Ram 1500 it would make a good tow rig for a TJ.
