yj cj heater control

Hi all, just located a relatively rust free yj tub to re tub my cj. I know most everyone (including myself) love the cj dash for whatever reason. Just fishing here a little if I was to leave the yj dash intact (I'm not a traitor really!) what is involved with "hooking up" the yj heating controls as far as vacuum lines? Is there a vacuum canister under the hood? I have not purchased or seen this thing yet. But essentially it is a complete yj without the running gear.
thanks!

Yes, there is a vacuum reservoir under the battery tray I think it is for the heater and axle control.

Use the YJ tub with YJ dash and YJ heater. You don't need the CJ stuff.

here's the link to how the YJ system works, you.ll need to hook the vacuum switch to a manifold vacuum source, on YJ's it's a dedicated source on the rear of the intake manifold.

Lost Heat

I recently swapped a 360 into my CJ7. I am not sure if the heater worked before because I never tried to use it. It is hooked back up to the motor now and I dont see any anti-freeze leaks.

Sometimes, not often, it will kick some heat, but usually just cool air. The system doesnt seemed block. When I turn the fan on there is some evidence that mice had been exploring the duct work.

You need to check for air locks. Make sure none of the heater hoses run higher than the fluid level in the rad. The cores also respond well to a good flush with a garden hose.

Ok. Thanks. I am still new to a lot of this. I will check that out today.

This may sound stupid but how exactly do I flush them with a garden hose? Just run water through them? I figure that would overflow the heatercore and make a huge mess under the dash.

Thanks for your advice!

The heater core is a mini radiator under the dash. It is a sealed unit, or it better be... You access the insides of it from the firewall side. I usually unhook the hoses at the thermostat which is the input to the core and where the output hose connects at the water pump and put the garden hose in the output hose to back flush it. I aim the hose from the thermostat at the ground.
