Xfer Case Shifter/Linkage Making NOISE? Any FIX?

A while back, I noticed a rattle noise and it was pretty bad. I was concerned that something was broken or on its way to giving out.

I tracked it down to the Transfer-Case Shifter, or at least if I put a Finger on it, a little pressure, I could keep it from vibrating and there is no noise.

I put a Large Rubber-Band around the Handle/Shaft and around the Heater-Box outlet. That applied just enough tension to quiet it down (no noise) but it is Really not Fixed.

My guess is that the Teflon (or whatever they are) Washers in the Shifter are shot or missing. I Greased the linkage Fittings, etc, but that didn't make a difference.

What likely causes the vibration/noise and what needs to be Fixed? The Transfer-Case, Transmission and Driveshafts all seem to function. Is there likely a problem in the Xfer case or is it more likely just in the Shifter Linkage, etc?
