I ran into a bunch of problems just trying to swap a '99 4.0 from a Cherokee into an '86 CJ7. The computer and wiring was going to be a major headache and the fuel rail was going to require an external regulator. Then there was the second O2 sensor. I decided to steal the head, manifolds, cam, and lifters and put them on my 258. I would do some investigation before I spent much money on it. Find out about the price and availability of transmission adapters, motor mounts, and wiring harnesses. Will the radiator work or will it have to be replaced? If you can make it work I think that it would be a neat swap. By the way, which V8 is it?
