Wrangler top on a 1986 CJ7?

I know you guys get pissed when you hear the same newbe question over and over again, but I don't want to make an expensive mistake. I have a chance to buy a soft to that I am told fits the 1988-1995 wrangler. I would be putting it on a 1986 CJ7. Will it fit?

Do you know what brand and model the soft top is? The tubs are the same, but not sure about the windshield frame

When i bought a supertop for my cj7 it was for a cj7 and a yj. According to my instruction sheet the sopertop is the same for both. IT copletely depends on what doors the top is for. the supertop has a rounded rear corner for the doors where the factory yj soft top made for half doors has a squared off rear corner for the doors. the factory half doors were squared off not rounded like the hard doors. Hope this helps.

It depends on whether you're currently running a full soft door, 1/2 hard YJ doors or full hard doors. YJ and CJ bodies are interchangeable so the dimensions are the same.

You didn't say what part number you're referring to, so yes it will probably fit. But if you got the one with upper doors only and you're not running 1/2 hard doors, you'll have a problem.

I've done the other way around. CJ7 top on a Wrangler body, a donor for a rusted CJ7. All I had to do was adjust the windshield frame. Soft upper half doors will not work, hard doors will. If you want half doors then you need TJ soft uppers and have to relocate the pins (cut, shorten and re-weld).

if it's the original or original replacement yj top you will need the rails that go on the sides of the tub that also have the track inside. then you will need windshield attachments and there will be about a 2" gap above the tailgate

i have half doors on my 7. When I bought my soft top i bought the top half of the doors to fit a supertop. Besttop makes half door uppers that fit (ie rounded corner instead of squared off)

if you're wanting a top get a bestop supertop. it is the easiest by far. or go with the original cj7 soft top and double window doors. got my whole top for 350!

The YJ top will fit fine on the CJ7. But you have to watch what type of doors the soft top was made for. YJ's have 2 options, full hard doors and half hard doors with soft uppers. Now if you are buying an after market top with doors then none of that is an issue.

just make sure you get the rails that are made for it. I bought a yj top for $50 without the rails. they are so hard to find I ended up selling it for $200 and buying my cj7 OEM top with doors for 300

sounds like a great price to me! I say go for it. you might have to drill holes around the tub for snaps but i think they look good!
