worse for wear cj7 build

so i've been lingering here for a little while and slowing finding time between college and work and an unheated garage in upstate new york to bring life to a cj7 i picked up back in the summer for 500 bucks with dents and rot and no title, but for 500 bucks how can you go wrong so heres what i got

the tub is terrible, the friend i bought it off of slid down a bank backwards into a tree and smashed the rear corner in by the filler tank, both floor pans are shot as with the bed which is getting thin, but the tailgate, and entire front clip is practically brand new, whoever had the jeep before my friend and i began to build a decent jeep out if it. its got the 258, t177 4 speed (i think) and dana 300, the frame is amazing, almost no rust, only where the pan had rotted and its barley through the paint. i havent had a chance to figure out the axel, but motor, frame and body are various yrs, so ill be calling assistant to decode it.

my first question is what the heck is this, its mounted on the passenger inner fender and aparently holds something

It used to hold your jack. But it looks like you have a good project.
