Winter Driving & CJs

I've never drove my CJ in the winter, I'm thinking about playing in the snow, so....

How are the CJs in the snow & ice of a midwest winter?

How good are the heaters?

I've been driving my 92 Bronco for years & it does well in the deep snow, how does it compair to a CJ?

The heaters are horrible, but CJ's aren't bad in the snow in 4H, unless you have LS or lockers, then it takes some getting used to.

If your thinking of driving on the roads, be ready for some wild rides.
Short wheelbase allows for easier spinning like a top on ice.
The CJ has a narrower track width as compared to the majority of road vehicles. So when you have to drive on unplowed roads, see how many times the CJ decides to switch which rut it wants to stay in before you get switched right into the ditch.

It would be funny if i didn't have to drive home in a blizzard today.

Especially if your running "floter" type tires instead of something that gets down to the pavement. This morning in the heavy slush i was sliding over the top of the ruts to get from lane to lane.

Watch out for them Jeep grabbing drifts! Just a little teeny bit of a drift grabs them fat tires and sucks you right in to the ditch. Did you know you can drive a CJ under a 90 degree turn sign and rip the mirror off without hitting the soft top?

x3 I forgot about that small detail. Now I remember why I drive the Suby when it snows.

wide tires + Snow = crash ... need I say more? that was the fate my 78 scout met Jeeps are much less stable I ran 7.50-16 traction tread on my 57 cj5 but it was just a yard plow

for cjs maybe but not for 4x4 suvs in general... here in Iceland your suv isn't considered to be a jeep untill you put 35" under it... a lot of 38" and 44" cars in town and they seem to handle snow and slush just fine...

49" ford...


'46 Willys on 44"...
