Windshield frame issues / Defroster

Ok,

Trying to get my heater/defroster working the way it should. That's what I get for buying something in the summer. Didn't even think about checking to see if the defroster worked. The heater fan did, just never checked the defroster.

So... I think what happened was the previous owner install a YJ windshield frame. There are no provisions for the defroster vents. I flipped the windshield forward and find that none of the holes are punched to make it functional. I ordered the defroster plastic pieces from 4WD. The holes on the bottom side will be easy enough. Does someone have measurements for where the plastic deflectors mount? Once I have that I can figure out where to drill the holes.

Thanks for the help in advance,
Brian

I dont know about the yj windshield but, inside the cj frame there are blocking plates inside so the air doesnt go all the way around the inside of the frame. If you are going to drill holes, dont forget to block off the sides or all you will get is a nice heated windsheild frame.

hole layout works. Thanks.

How far from the sides of the frame do they start? Trying to figure out placement for each vent side to side.

On the driver's side, the leftmost hole lines up with the square hole for the wiper motor, you can see that in the photo.

A word of advice, you should always measure from center line and not from an edge on any type of layout work.

Or a known factory reference point, like the windshield wiper motor hole

Ok - windshield is off. All holes made. Ready to mount it back on.

Got to thinking. What keeps the air from blowing through the larger holes on frame that are hidden by dash pad.

Did some looking. I need the 2 plastic inserts to keep the air in windshield frame. No biggie, 4WD has them.

But......

the drivers side hole is like 3 times as large as the passenger side. It looks to me on the CJ frame that they were the same size from drivers side to passenger side. Are there plastic plugs to fit the factory YJ drivers side hole, or am i stuck doing bodywork on the windshield frame to fill it in so it matches a CJ frame?

Thanks in advance,
Waldo

A CJ Wiper arm pivot cover will fit the small hole. You will have to fabricate something to cover the long hole. There was nothing available for it when I had the same problem with my YJ windshield frame.
