Winch mounting ideas.

I picked up a Ramsey REP6000 off Craigslist back in the Spring and it's been sitting in my garage ever since as I try to come up with a cheap mount.

In the meantime I've been thinking that it might be a good candidate for a portable mount cradle.

If I go that route it will still spend most of its time mounted in front of the grille. Are there any good, secure options for mounting one of those portable rigs to the front of a CJ that don't involve the winch hanging out past the front bumper?

I remember seeing a pic of someone who did a portable mount. He had one receiver pointing out the front in which he installed the winch for winching. When not in use, he had another receiver pointed upward and stuck the winch in that to maintain a good approach angle. Something like that might work.. only drawback might be blocking the radiator opening a little.

are you sure that 6000# is gonna be enough? Shouldn't you have at least an 8000#. i was told that your winch should be able to handle at least 2x the weight of your vehicle. 3000# is a pretty light jeep especially when it's loaded for wheeling.
