Will incorrect auto tranny fluid cause slippage??

so i picked up the jeep from the dude that removed the tranny to replace seals. but now when i give it a good amount of right foot, it slips. it didnt do it as bad before even when it was low on fluid. auto trans is the 999. so im thinking, maybe he just grabbed whatever trans fluid he saw at the parts store. im thinking he used chryslers ATF4. will it cause such slippage??? we need dexron on our autos correct??

ATF+3/ATF+4 is for the newer electronically controlled Ultradrive Chrysler automatics (A604/41TE, 42RE, 45RE, etc). The AW4 and the TF999 should take Dexron. I know on the AW4 ATF+3/ATF+4 can cause it to act erratically, but I've never heard of anyone running it in a TF727/TF999. If he did use ATF+4, that was an expensive mistake, my DD takes that stuff and it is EXPENSIVE.
