I have a feeling it won't fit because my 74 tub has the storage area on the passenger side.

It's just that most consoles I find are for 76+ models...

Or if not fitting, is there a way to "make" it fit? I.e. cutting it?

Without knowing what console you're referring to it's hard to tell if you can make it fit without issues.

I have a Tuffy 10" center console that I pulled out of a '79 CJ in my '75, which has the same floor as your '74. It took some bracket making to install, but nothing too difficult.

By the way, a 75 tub is the same as a 74. 75 was a mixed year... My 75 was manufactured in June and has the old style tub. If you have the toolbox under the passenger seat its the old style tub.
