Will this Air Filter System Work Properly?

Seperated this to a different thread from my previous one. I heeded the warnings about the foam type small filter that was on the carb and installed this system that the PO had fabbed up but not installed. I had all the parts. I figure it isn't anyworse than the old one but I'm not sure if this is adequate or not? Give me some thoughts.

much better setup in my opinion. I had a buddy in high school that had your triangle type filter on his truck and it was a pos. the carb would backfire and that would be the end of the filter.

It will filter the air coming into the carb.

It's not ideal since it's still bringing in hot underhood air, but it's better than that street rod only in a car show filter you had.

Is that plenum off of a Caddy? I think I have one identical to it.

I have no idea what this setup is from as the PO already had it put together.

I put one of those triangular foam filters on a Bug once. When I would floor it the vacuum from the carb would suck the foam down and stall the car :)

It is a better set up. Just remember to clean and oil the gauze filters. Otherwise they will allow dirt to pass through.

looks like a grand cherokee one? The dakota/durango are also similar.

Is here a better brand of this type of filter or is K&N the standard?

It looks like the one I got from a Caddy.

82 Kansas CJ is 75% on his way to a snorkle with that Cadillac air bonnet,

I did the same thing, but I used some tubing and made a snorkel that works REALLY WELL.
The hard part was finding a gasket for the carb so it didn't leak at the bonnet.
Turned out, Holley has gaskets that work great.

Some guys hook hose to that bonnet and run it through the firewall with ONE of those cone filters behind the dash, just inside the fire wall, but it's NOISY, you hear the engine 'Sucking'...

I did a PVC tubing out the fender well behind the front tire, under the battery tray and up the windshield frame and it works OK, but it won't take a wack from a rock or tree very well...
(Ask me how I found that out!)

Now my side 'Nerf' bars/rock sliders protect it somewhat and I do a lot less replacing the plastic pipe!

I've been looking into that square/rectangle PVC they use for fencing since it glues together like any other PVC and it's cheap...
Should take some of the parts out that stick out too far.
Don't know how it's going to work, but I'm going to try it... I'm sure I'm going to screw it up a dozen times before it works.

Looked kind of funky, but one guy used GUTTERING & DOWN SPOUTS for his snorkel, and it worked suprisingly well!
They make nice turns and elbows for downspouts, so it's not that far out in left field...

I like the guttering idea, but wouldn't the diameter be too small to allow sufficient air flow to feed the engine?

I really hadn't given much thought to do a snorkle. I did think of running some sort of tubing from one of the "T" connections to the spacing behind the headlight to try and bring in some fresh air.
