Wider dana 44 axle

I have two Dana 44 axles that I swapping into my 69 cj5. The issue I have is the front axle perches are 3 inches wider on both sides and due to the housing, one side can't be moved. Has anyone done anything where you widened the frame or mount new spring hangers off of the frame about 3" wider then the frame itself? Thank you

Google outboarding jeep springs and you will have all of the info you will need to answer your question.

Here's my thread from when I outboarded my springs. Little different due to year and axles, but the basic concept is the same.

stock 82 to 86 "widetracks" will bolt right in. Minor mod with the front shock mounts.

even wider non stock 44s can have the long side of the tubes cut down, but that major fab.

The problem isn't the width, it's the distance between the spring perches that dictates outboarding. You can't just move them in because of the differential being in the way on one side.

I narrowed a Chevy D44 by 4" to avoid outboarding. WMS to WMS on this axle is 65.5" with eight lugs. Lots of info on this subject on the web.
