Where to find turn signal cam for '76

I need a new turn signal cam for my '76. Every place I have checked does not show one for a CJ this old. Most state the part fits '81 and up.

Any ideas on where to find one? I have learned the hard way that later model CJ parts usually do not fit my '76.

Thanks,

According to an old catalog I have, the original two numbers it could have been were:
4487711 without tilt
4487816 w/ tilt

Those numbers are still available out there though many descriptions say 81+...so, they should fit yours just fine.

If you have your old one to compare I found mine in the help section at one of the big box stores.

apparently I am calling it the wrong thing or places don't know what they are talking about.

I looked at Morris and the part it shows for a turn signal cam is what I need. However, when I contacted 2 different local autoparts store, their system keeps coming up with the actual directional switch.

I need the round plastic piece that has the spring loaded extension on it,

maybe I'll just go in and look for myself.

Thanks!

My '78 uses a GM column so small parts like the turn signal cancelling cam should easily be available.

The parts shop that stocks part for Skylab II will not have parts for our year/model of Jeep

Just got back from the two different local stores, Advance Auto and Autozone and neither had one.

Did you happen to look at a GM turn signal cancelling cam when you were the to see if it matched?

I did see a GM one but it looked different from the one in my 7. Mine has a metal pin that is spring loaded in the part that sticks out from the circle.

the GM one did not have a pin or spring in that hollow shaft.

Here are some pics of the factory piece that has given up after 35 years.... can't blame it

The main difference I noticed when I compared the GM part was the fact that the spring and metal rod did not come with the GM part and the diameter of the plastic shaft seemed bigger... not sure I could even try to re-use the factory spring and rod.

You might not have the right year figured out, but it IS a GM Saginaw column.
If it were me, I'd tske the part to NAPA (where the counter guys seem to be both more knowledgeble and patient) and ask to see the cams for the GM, maybe a year or two prior besides the same year. BE SURE to tell the guy whether or not it's a tilt column.

Welcome to the world of Jeeps where finding the right part is an adventure. I drive the counter guys nuts asking them for Jeep parts, Chevy parts, Ford parts, etc, for the same CJ! Their computers aren't as understanding as that crusty old counter guy at NAPA who probably writes letters with a chisel and hammer!

I'd rather be lost on the trails than found at home!

go into napa and they should have this type of canceling cam hanging up on the shelf, maybe its not specifically listed for jeep. and you may have to file the horn contact pin down with a bastard file.
