Wheel spacers

Since I'm fixing up my narrow track on the cheap, I've opted to consider on advice some wheel spacers.

I see alot of sizes, but was looking at the 2" spacers. I was curious how the would hold up to moderate wheeling?

The ads seem to push strength as a positive.

I haven't done much wheeling narrow, but when I'm done buttoning this CJ up, it will see some good use.

Anybody have them?

How do they work for you?

You could also get wheels that have less back spacing.

2" spacers are what I ran all the way around the last couple years. They did OK as long as they are tight. Be sure to locktight (blue or red, not green). They made the front a little harder to steer. You will also be more likely to contact fenders which will need trimming or really long bump stops. I now have the Dana 44 front without spacer and it steers like a dream. If your running them on the back I hope you have dome a 1 piece axle conversion to the AMC 20. There are many threads on this so do a search.

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

I'm putting a 44 in the rear. MY 20 is blown, figure the 44 since it's cheap from our local club can be done.

I haven't the foggiest idea how back spacing works.

I could get a new set of rims with better backspacing and not use wheel spacers?

I was looking into spacers since I'm SOA. Was in a thread were it was mentioned to be an 1" out for every 1" up more or less.

Firgured the spacers might give me a tad more stability.

Thanks guys.
Blair

Properly backspaced steel wheels will give you the "width" you are trying to get with spacers, for less $.

Just read on some backspacing.

I needed to buy a rim for my spare. Looks like I got a reason to shop for a whole set now.

If I'm understanding correctly, I should be looking for a backspacing of around 2"?

I was looking to try and get 4" more width total.

Or I guess I should look at what my rims have now and proceed from there.

THanks,
BLair
