What's up with my fluids

After doing much reading on the proper fluids for my tranny (t-18a) and TC (d20), I finally located GL-4 gear oil (stuff's really hard to find in raleigh/durham...thank you napa) and changed the fluids today.

The fluid from the tranny came out looking like chocolate milk. Is that a sign of water in my tranny? Or did someone put ATF in the gear oil?

The fluid from the TC looked remarkably like ATF (red and thin). Why would someone do such a thing?

Chocolate Milkshake means water. If ATF was added, then it'd just be much thinner.
