What is this the small end moves in and out

My guess it was mounted in the top left of the dash. There should be 3 switches in a row. Headlights, hazard, and windshield wipers.

Ya my po just messed all my stuff up so i dont know hazards sounds good ill look into that. i have the original lightd knob but not the wipers there a dumb switch and no hazards at all so i think your right thank you

My Dad also has a '72 CJ5 that I have been working on. I just rewired and re-plumbed most of it.

Ya so far iv removed the lincoln locker rear end (welded) and put in a powertrax lock right and i just cut out my drivers floor pan last night and welded in a new sheet

Looks like the hazzard switch to me. I think you have a prong broke off too on the front left looking at the picture. I don't think you can buy that switch any more.
