What year soft tops will fit my 71cj5

Hello,

My soft top on my CJ is more like a rag... literally.. If I go over 40mph it just blows off because of how bad its torn. I need a new top. Unfortunetly I haven't been able to find a replacement soft top for my year from bestop anywhere online. They only have the complete setup for $900.. I only need the top itself... So now to my question.. Does anyone know what years will fit my jeep, or know where to get a replacement top for it?

Do you know the original manufacturer of the existing top? If so, check their website for a replacement. If not, you're probably out of luck anyway, since different manufactures used different hardware to install the canvas and doors. If it is a Best top, you may want to contact them directly for more info.
In the end, you may have to pony up for the entire thing.......

I have no idea what it is. Is there anyway to tell? And I would rather wear thermals, and a parka while driving it this year instead of spending 900 on a soft top..

I agree, it's highway robbery. I was lucky enough to score a fiberglass hardtop a few years ago and what's left of my soft top is in the rafters above the garage. I usually only bring it out in the summer as a full length bikini top.

The flip side is if you take care of it, a new one should last as long as you own the rig, baring being torn or rolling the Jeep.

Best Top makes replace-a-tops for Jeeps. Quadratec or 4WD Hardware would be two places to start your search. Replace-a-tops are just the material and are for if you have the bows and rods.

The model year breaks for soft tops are 55-75 and 76-83.

Again, if you don't know the original manufacture of your exisiting top, it's a crap shoot if the bows and door frames will match the new canvas and door skins. The hardware from my Acme were entirely different from the replacement Best top. No way would they interchange.
