What year did Jeep start putting a CAT on CJ7

I have both a 79 and 81 CJ7 with 304 motor and I am just trying to find out when Jeep (AMC) started putting a catalytic converter in the exhaust from the factory? Anyone know?

1976 was the first year for the catalytic converters, but not all 76's had them. Some 76's had a "non-catalyst" sticker on the dash panel. By 1977, it was standard equipment.

My 76 and 77 had the non-catalyst stickers on.

The sticker in this picture says 79

According to the 76 FSM: "All CJ models with V-8 engines and all California CJ models have catalytic converters." My 76 CJ-5, a non-California 258, has no converter.

Gotta love Jeeps - they are so inconsistent on everything!

Every CJ in '79 had a convertor, regardless of engine or "California/49-state" model. This was the first year that the fed gov't required cats on passenger cars and anything categorized as a light truck.
