What year did Jeep start putting a CAT on CJ7

I have both a 79 and 81 CJ7 with 304 motor and I am just trying to find out when Jeep (AMC) started putting a catalytic converter in the exhaust from the factory? Anyone know?

1976 was the first year for the catalytic converters, but not all 76's had them. Some 76's had a "non-catalyst" sticker on the dash panel. By 1977, it was standard equipment.

'77 CJ-5 Renegade 304 / T-150, Dana 20, 30/20 axles, Aussie Locker in the Dana 30, American Racing 15x10 Outlaw II's, 33" Dynapro M/T's" ,Optima Battery, TeamRushed + Summit Racing CDI ignition, FlowKooler water pump, Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold, Holley 4160 390cfm, Herculiner, Silver Ceramic Coated Hedman Hedders, Flowmaster 40's.
Warn PowerPlant HD 12K Winch, Dirtworx front and rear bumpers.

According to the 76 FSM: "All CJ models with V-8 engines and all California CJ models have catalytic converters." My 76 CJ-5, a non-California 258, has no converter.

Every CJ in '79 had a convertor, regardless of engine or "California/49-state" model. This was the first year that the fed gov't required cats on passenger cars and anything categorized as a light truck.
