what transmission is this?

It says borg warner on the side but not sure what transmission it is can anybody tell me. It is in a 1985 cj7 with a 258 i6 motor

Probably a t4 or t5 is it 4 or 5 speed?

It's a T5, T4's were on 4 cyl engines.

They only had one 5 speed. The T5

i hope so Cause I am trying to change my clutch from a linkage to hydraulic and needed to know what type of tranny it is

I have a 83 258 with a 4 speed.Did tranny styles change after 83

After 82 they changed to the t4 n t5 81-82 they used the sr4 a 4 speed ford tranny with reverse up by first. Be careful though people swap trannys all the time you don't Always have the transmission your jeep came with but in the case of his 5 speed its pretty clear that it is a t5

Don't forget about the T176 4 speed. I haven't found any source that gives clear cut transition years between the various 4 speeds used. It seems like between 80 and 86 any one of the three could have come in a CJ depending on the engine and options the Jeep was ordered with.

'84 CJ-17: 17" stretch, locked Toy axles, 5.5" lift, FI, AX15, D300 w/twin sticks, boatsides & junk.

So if you know dimensions,shift pattern and pictures you can identify it.I always thought i had a S4 instead of T4
