what size are the torx bolts? (the actual bolt, not the "t" size)

i am going to the hardware store before i'll have a chance to take a torx out and bring it with me, so what size are they? Are they all the same size? If not, i guess i am most concerned with the windshield hinge bolts... what diameter, threads per inch, and length, are they? (you know, like 3/8" - 18x2") Thanks a lot!

Glenn

U have a great question. I also am wondering this very same thing. I snapped a torx off in one of the bolts on the diff. It is going to be very hard to remove. I want to replace them with bolts, but don't know the conversions. Does anyone know what bolt replaces a Torx T-40

The ones in the diffs can be extracted by taking a cut-off wheel and making flat spots on them so you can get a regular socket on and get them out.

I can't remember the size of the bolts i used to replace them with, but i'm pretty sure they were 18 fine threaded and 1.5" long.

You won't find them at a HomeDepot, you have to go to Pep Boys or Ace Hardware or Lowes.

The Windshield Hinge bolts are 5/16 x 18. I think these are all going to be 1 inch bolts.

The AMC20 Axle I have also uses the same 5/16 x 18 bolts. If Memory serves, these bolts are 1/2 inch

Make sure are get washers for the Diff cover!

I had a tough time getting my bolts off the rear end. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to use torx screws on a diff cover should be slapped

But they are 5/16 x 18 x 1/2 inch bolts.

Here here!

Whomever invented Torx really, Torx me off! I did manage to get the bolts out of the rear end okay, thanks to a leaky Diff cover gasket, which was the reason I was taking it off anyway!

The Diff grease leaking out kept all the bolts from rusting into place!
