What size tire for 4.10s?
So I just picked up a Dana 30 and AMC 20 with 4.10s. The front has a Detroit Truetrac and the rear has the OEM style Trac-lok. I am doing a skyjacker 4 inch suspension lift, with hydro shocks, but I was curious as to what size tires you guys thought I should be running with that gearing. This is a street/trail jeep that will rarely, if ever, go on the highway. I was looking at either 33s or 35s. I am just looking for your experience with those tire sizes. Pics would also be great. I was going to just go with 33s but I don't want my jeep to be crazy revy. The jeep now has 31s with 2.73s for gears so this will be a big difference from what I am used to.
Specs:
I-6 258
Dana 300
T-176
I will be getting goodyear Duratracs. The AMC will be getting superior one piece axles and the tubes will be welded.
Thanks for the help.

33 would probably be good. i have had several trucks with 4:10 and 35's and really liked that setup. wont be much difference in rpm between the two.

Unless you are going with SOA or a longer shackle, I don't believe the 35s will fit. Either one will work pretty good with 4.10s. Here is mine on 35 but it has the 4 inch and I believe a 1.5 lift shackle. The Novak calculator below shows under to 1700 RPM at 55 with your current set up and 2300 for the 4.10s with 33 at 55 which they say is ideal. Play with it and see what you think.

I would go 33, 35s are harder on the drivetrain and don't get you much. Also, they would be tight if the even fit with a 4" lift.

I would go with 33 like I did on my CJ7... Really nice performing.

According to the G-Year online catalog only the Duras w/Kevlar give ya the 33/35 choice. Tire rack says theres a $4 difference in price. $209 vs $213. Non Kevlars in 33" are $175. $150 question. BTW I have these on my wifes Sequoia (285's). They saved my *** in the middle of a wet, muddy cornfield when I was all alone and sinking. Backed up, floored and prayed. It would have taken 500' of chains/straps etc..to get to me. Swearza by them. Plannin' on 33s on my '79 360 CJ7 w/4"SL, 1"BL, 1" shackles and same gears. No sense knocking the inside knobs off if they rub.FWIW

Thanks for the replies.
Now I have to decide on if I want to get 33x12.5 or 33x10.5. I am sold on the duratracs though so at least that decision has been made. Thanks again.

Thanks for the link and the info. I understand that the 35s were going to need more lift, I was just wondering about tire height vs gear ratio thing. I was also going to go with a shackle + 4 inch suspension lift IF I was going to do 35s. Now I am pretty much sold on the 33s. They make life a lot easier.
Here is the link I have been using for my calculations.

its as much width. a wider tire will need more clearance.

What size tire are the people where you will be wheelin running?
I've talked to guys who've ran 33's for 10+ years and talk like 33's were sent to earth from God himself. Others wouldn't give you a second look if youf not running 35's and up.
MY 2 cents, go for 35's.

Ive got 35 12.50's, came with the jeep when I bought it. Ive got 4.10's and a 3 speed manual transmission. They really make the jeep high geared with my setup, and I am going to go with 32's here in the future. Even in 4 low, first gear is pretty fast with these tires.
It has a 4" lift and I have not rubbed, the guy put on these bushwacker cutout fender flares, but they did not cut out the fenderwell. I just dont care for the 35"s for me.
Here's a picture of mine for reference.

what size rim are you running? do they even offer the duratrac in a 35. I didn't see one in 15 " anyway? I know you could go to 16" to get your 35's. just asking.

I believe with your setup that 4.10's are way to low of a gear for 33's. My brother had a 258 t4 and Dana 300 with 2.72's, and regeared to 4.10's and it was way to low. At 60mph he was running about 3000rpms and his top speed was about 65! He then changed the gearing to 3.31's and it's way better

Yup, you are correct. They don't offer it in a 35. I would have to get the MTR to get a 35. They don't even offer a 33x10.5 in the duratrac either. Looks like I am limited to getting a 33x12.5 if I want duratracs. If I want 35s I will have to get the 35x12.5 MTRs.

You have a different transmission than I do. Plus, my gearing would put me at about 2700 rpm at 65 mph with 33s and 4.10s. With 35s I would be at 2500 rpm. Only 200 rpm difference.
