First thing that you should do after repairs rust, brakes etc. is a full roll cage because that can save your life.

But they could double as a Tow Hook!

Yes there is a couple of ways to do this
1. is to go to a shop and have them fab one up for you
2. Search the internet for Jeep parts suppliers that sell them I know for sure that M.O.R.E.(Mountain Off Road Enterprises M.O.R.E. ORF Sport Cage web pageRock hard bolt in cage ) sells them
Heres a few that I know of the third one Rock Hard is totally bolt in and a little more expensive but if you can't weld you are stuck going this way.

First upgrade you should do, is sell those POS VWs, and get your Jeep fixed up.

Haha just kidding! Heh, I have had my fair share of Veedubs myself. I was more of a classic VW guy myself. The nicest one I had was and old split-window I bought from an old school teacher in germany. I should have brought that back with me when I got out.

First upgrade? Tub and chassis. Definitely.

Well I wish i would have looked at this thread sooner. I too have a VW actually have had several. But right now we have a '68 that was pretty much restored a couple of years ago. very very cool machines.
This is sorta wierd, usually the testosterone<sp levels on jeep sights are to high to tolerate Vdubb talk.

Actually a ride through the woods in a souped up buggy is pretty dang thrilling.

Now for the Jeep, lol, if it were mine after the brakes are working i'd drive it for awhile to see if some other problem creeps up. there ain't much thats more frustrating than getting a lift and tires on just to have the wornout tranny puke the next day.

... As far as the jeep goes there is more work there then I originally antisipated so I don't think its going to be on the road as soon as I had hoped. I want to go over everthing system with a fine tooth comb.

Thanks to everyone for the responses and help, I am gonna keep updating this post with my progress/questions as they arise... happy trails!
