what seats to get??

Woo!! The day has come! I finished all the driveline and mechanical problems on my 83 cj7 and now I'm looking for new seats, I need 2 buckets for up front and the rear bench seat. I was looking at quadratec and they have some "rugged ridge" seats with free shipping. Has anyone used these? The price seems good. If you guys have any recommendations I would be happy to hear them!

I've heard the rugged ridge and smittybuilt seats aren't as durable. If you have the cash go with bestop or corbeau.....and go for the high back rear seat....you're passengers will thank you.

4wd.com had free shipping and some smittybilts and bestops on sale. Just make sure you call and check the stock before you order. I did not and they were back ordered. If you call 4wd.com ask for Devin he was a great help to me.

I just put in the rugged ridge recline able in the front driver and smittybuilt non recline for passenger . Its cake I removed my old seat bracket primered then painted black. Bolted the new seat on and back into the jeep. They seem well made I like the rugged ridge more only time will tell. I broke off a rusted bolt into the old seat but I had spare bolts on hand. If you donít paint and donít have problems new ones should take 2-3 beers tops.

Okay cool what color seat did you get? Do you know if there is much difference between the black vinyl and the black denim?

I'm with lpat. Go with originals and have covered if needed. This is a friend of mines Laredo seat done locally a few weeks ago for $200 each. They are beautiful. Mine are going to be done soon.

No personal experience but sold my first CJ7 to a friend who had the money to restore and said one of his regrets was getting the Denim seats and not Vinyl!!!

I got Rugged Ridge. You just as well sit on a milk crate,They are hard. The stiching started coming apart after 6 months. We don't drive it that much.I got the stock replica maybe their other brands are better.I talked to Morris about them cause RR won't talk directly to the end user, which is strange. They never did do anything about them.Morris sent me a 25 dollar gift cert but other than that i'm stuck with them.I can't stress this enough.Sit in them before you buy what you want.If you can find them in stock somewhere.

I had one of the steel horse seats that the rugged ridge seats are patterned off of, It came with the jeep when I bought it and held up pretty well. It was tarting to rust out but it had sat in the open for who knows how long. I just got a new set of the RR standard buckets in spice denim for christmas and so far i'm happy with them. Theese seats aren't as comfortable as factory seats or other aftermarket options but they fit me good. I'm 6' and 220lbs. they cramp me up a bit if I ride around all day but that doesn't happen too often.

I think if you can get them for less than $120 ea. with free shipping they are a good value. There are definatly better seats out there, but theese are not totaly crap or anything.

What experience Ive had with aftermarket seats, is that they are generally thicker in the bottom section than the OEM seats, so you sit higher....too high. Also the bottoms are too stiff and the backs lack support. I will go with OEM seats any day, even if the old ones need recovering, they fit and feel better than a new aftermarket ones.
