What Engine & Transmission

Hey everybody,

Im doing a 76 CJ-7 frame up rebuild. I am a novice and am looking for advice of a engine transmission to put in it. The old frame was trash (rusted out) so I got a clean rebuild one off of crags list. Its a solid frame and the guy had a check small block mounted on it before. So I think the engine mounts are there for a chevy (i don't know how to confirm this though).

I am targeting a strong, reliable, and clean looking engine. I like the look of the crated chevy motors but they all seem to be performance engines. I don't need/want a bunch of power or want to do a lot of modification on install.

Also, how about carb vs fuel injected. I know people have gotten chevy vortex's out of Tahoes before, cheep and comes with full injection. Problem with those is the "clean" look is not there like a crated carb motor?

The jeep will be for taking me and the kids up in the hills for the weekend and camp and drive on some trails. I will not be doing hardcore 4x4ing.

Maybe a 200-250hp crated carb'd motor, with a manual transmission?

Where do I purchase/shop?

Thanks for the help!
