I finished my disk brake conversion for the front axle. I then took my jeep out for the first time in months, then I realized I probably need to install a brake booster :/. But hey progress is progress.

Got the intake and exhaust gaskets replaced today. Also flushed the radiator and topped it off with new coolant. It is running so smooth now.

Just finished fitting the 1963 287ci Rambler engine in. Shoulda left the car in the swamp where I found it. Gotta love a free V8. Man does this thing smoke. Kinda quiet though, doesn't rap too bad and might start hitting on all 8....I hope.
It was seized, but I broke it loose after a weeks worth of oil in the cylinders. I attached a strap to the bottom of the flex plate to my loader. It broke free sometime Thursday night, after hanging like a gutted deer for a few days. Amazing it runs. 50 years old and looks like the valve covers were never off, and I only needed new points! Good times are a comin'. Going for a test ride. At least I've got back brakes.

Got up this morning, drove it about seventy miles, wheeled it in the rocks all day, drove seventy miles back home.
I'm pretty well whipped....

I drove it!!! Been sitting in the garage for over 3 weeks now. All I had left was to put on the extended front brake lines. I did the tie rod ends last night. It now has a wide track disc brake front and a 6"-6.5"SUA lift. Im happy with the height, and it seems to ride well and flex as good as my old 2.5" bds lift.

Mav, I never saw WTs on a 5'er. Got any pics? What size rubber are you running, and what do you think the max size would be. My bro has a 5, it's in my album here, and he's contemplating this swap. He drives 2 hours on the T-Pike when he comes home and is thinking WT for stability. He wants discs to, but driving in Philly, he usually locks the drums w/people cutting him off. Don't need better brakes if everybody else is in a stolen car, has no insurance, "papers to be here" or license!

Worked on my Dad's 72 CJ5 some more today.

I picked up some Ford Explorer seats yesterday to swap in. He has a fractured vertebra in his back so the RCI seats had to go. I started with the huge wiring harness, memory computer, etc in the bottom of the seat. After a few hours of scratching my head, I had the electrics figured out so there was only a ground and a positive to hook up so the 6-way power seats would function.

This is what I started with.

How much I cut out and what I ended up with.

And test fitting the seat in the drivers side.

I got a few steps closer to getting my '85 ready to wheel, memorial day weekend. In the process of installing a 4" lift with 1" shackles and will fit 34" swampers underneath...

Before I started, two weeks ago:

After installing a rebuilt head to replace the first on my newly built motor, I installed the hydro clutch, put it up on stands to test and lube the trans, xfer case and diffs since those were completely rebuilt as well. All I need for a test drive is brakes. Five years and one month of part time work since I towed the heap home.
