Moved a CJs

Moved a non running no brakes 1980 Laredo to my new Jeep house. Used my little Kubota to push it on the trailer for the 300 ft trip to the new garage. My "in progress" 1985 CJ7 frame off resto will be moved tomorrow.

Cheers,

JS

Pulled up some pics...

of me and my Grandfather who inspired my absolute love of jeeps. One is me sighting in my handed down (from my grandfather) 1958 .308 Savage Featherweight (which has taken a total of 72 deer) using my grandfathers 85 CJ7 as a rest. Fast forward to 2017 and MY 85 CJ7.

Miss you BIG GUY! (sorry for the nostalgia)

Coolant level was the first thing I checked and its fine.
Replaced the thermostat yesterday and took the Jeep out for a test drive today (10 miles). Gauge moved to almost what I would call normal reading.
Don't know what or where a thermocouple is....

Don't worry, there is no thermocouple on the CJ. A thermocouple puts out a very small voltage depending upon temperature.

The temp sensor on a CJ is a temperature dependent resistor. The resistance changes with temperature. In this case, as temp goes up, resistance goes down.

Well, my headlight fell out today.... Anyone got a grill they want to get rid of?

On the plus side, my brake lines look perfect! Power steering lines, not so much....

Drove mine to work for the first time today! We've only put 50 miles on it so far. Been sitting since 1988.

JeepdaddyRC,

If I really add up the cost of my Jeep obsession......

Anyway, thanks for asking about my dream garage. It is a Morton building. It is 30 x 40 and not nearly big enough. One third office/apt. and the rest for Jeeps. I will have a floor above the office area (12 x 30) for Jeep part storage. I hope to have media blasting capability and be able to paint parts.
Pics: inside of virgin garage and recent outside shot.

BTW the body will be off the frame very soon and axles will be going to East Coast Gear for upgrades to 3:73. One-piece axles, and Detroit TrueTrac in rear.

I am a lucky man and plan to involve my 5 yoa grandson soon. Saw your pics in another thread today. You are lucky as well.

Thanks again,

JS

OK so yesterday I said all seemed well after replacing thermostat, well today not so much. After about 15 miles the stupid temp gauge is back to sitting on cold.
Starting to get really ticked-off at this Jeep. Now I'm back to ground zero trying to figure it out. Paranoid the engine is going to blow up because its not getting coolant through it or whatever.
Apparently there's something called a temperature sensor that could be faulty. Cost about $15 on Amazon. Anyone know where it's located on the Jeep so I can replace that?

cj5chic,

Not only does Dadumsnv have an aftermarket intake, he has a V8 engine...duh!

The temperature sensor on a 258 is near the rear of the engine beside the valve cover and screws into the top of the head on the drivers side. It sticks up and should have a wire going to it. It is not very large.

Good luck,

JS
