I would tend to agree that it is your one piece axles.
There is one more posability and that is the spider gears in your diff.
Before you buy any parts pop the rear cover and check it out.

Question about the brake drum since I'm putting my new Superior one pieces in my CJ-7.

Does your axle have the 3 screw holes for the brake drum to be secured to the hub. Mine doesn't and the kit uses the threaded lug bolts that are not tapered at the base. Therefore the brake drum has some slop.
