What to attach engine hoist to on 258?

Getting ready to pull out my 258. What do I attach the engine hoist to on the engine? Also should I unbolt thr t176 and dana 300 first or pull them as one unit?

Hope this helps. I took off the alternator and used a bolt in the mounting location and then used a bolt hole that is right above exhaust manifold on the opposite side in the rear. Here is some pics.

I unbolted the main bolt on the alt. and ran a link of the chain thru there. I also cliped it onto the other side. I pulled it all at once but I removed the front clip to do so. If you don't want to pull the front clip or at least the grill you will have to see how high you can get it and might have to use a strap to pull the tail up.

Craigb's way is probably the safest, but I didn't have the leveler or a plate to attach to, so I did mine the Toxic way. I just used 2 ratchet straps strategically placed. Pull them all at once with the grill off, it'll take much less time than trying to separate them under the Jeep. I didn't do this, but will next time - Pull the grill and front fenders together as opposed to separate, it'll be much easier when installing everything back in. I had a tough time lining up the grill with the fenders - Next time they'll come off together.

I install engine/bellhousing/and transmission at same time....easier for me. left and right side shots.
I leave as much on the engine as possible, detach wires from engine, and pull vac lines and such from the body....use blocks or attachment points that don't crush fragile items and

Isn't that a head bolt?

I attach my hoist to the head studs sticking out, just find two nuts that screw on, and put the chain on them.

I can get tilt either to the front or back by changing the links in the chain this way. Dont need no stinkin leveling bar or anything.

I used the valve cover bolt holes, I would have used the leveler if I was removing or installing the motor/trans/xfer case at the same time.

I think I have read motor is around 425 pounds. We just pulled a 360 with tranny attached. We put rachet straps around the exhaust manifolds and lifted the whole thing out. They were cheap and thought they would break but after we got it up we werent stopping there

I used the head bolt and the alternator bolt hole also. I would pull the engine by itself, and take the grill, and fenders off too.
