What's up with this? When I first get into my CJ and start to drive, my speedo is only about 7MPH slow at 55. As I continue to drive the speedometer starts to decline in speed (to around 20MPH), and stays there for the duration for the trip. I have a Dana 20 and I have installed a new speedo cable too. What do you think may be causing this problem? Thanks

Yepp! got the same problem!
Remove the speedo cable again. Hold it upright in front of you . Then use WD40 something equal and fill it up till the liquid drops out at the rear end.
Install it again. That's what i did and it worked good for me. Speedo runs like back in the 70's.

I sure wouldn't wash all the grease off with a solvent like WD40.... the grease it came with won't slow down the cable if the cable is connected at both ends, no way.
Are you sure you got the right cable? Are you sure you got the broken off stub that was left in the t-case end?
I have heard of your problem when the broken off end was still in there or with too short a cable.

I'm not sure if anything was still in the xfer case before I put the new speedo cable on. My Jeep did not have a cable hooked up to it when I bought it, so it is possible that there may be something stuck in the gear. I'll take a look at it this weekend. Oh yea Mike, I do have the correct cable. It's for an Dana 20 with a standard transmission. Thanks for the help.
