Anything over the hood for an extended period of time can be problems. Other parts of the engine are not protected. You can pull a fan blade in the radiator, the alternator isn't protected, all the breather tubes are below the water line, etc. Not to mention that if you ingest water into the engine, you can hydro-lock it and do some serious damage. All that said, it will take some extra maintenance with special attention to the drivetrain in general.
