warn tire carrier

i have a warn tire carrier and bumper (rear) on my cj and i was looking at it and trying to figure out why there is a piece of metal sticking up on the left side of the triangle that the spare attaches to anyone know what it is for? i can't imagine that they just had extra metal and wanted to give some away with the carreirs.

I'm not looking at mine at the moment but I am pretty sure it contacts the rubber stopper to keep it from slamming in to the Jeep.

The instructions that came with the WARN tire carrier I put on last week had reference to a Chrysler p/n for a rubber snubber that you would install. The snubber did not come with the carrier.
