wandering form line to line

just had alingment shop look at my complete stock 85 CJ low miles 18k except for (31" tire) and every thing is straight, yet still wanders. This jeep was towed alot would towing have a impact on the steering box?

Get someone to rock the Steering wheel from side to side while you watch the front spring shackles. I bet that you will see them flex from side to side. Super, super easy to change and they are available in Polyurethane

and jack up front end and wiggle the tire around..Left to right play is bearings and or tie rods,up and down play is ball joints..And while your having a buddy turning the wheel, watch the steering box for any movement..They crack and will wander all over the place.

You have slop in something then. Like others I recommend you have someone turn the steering back and forth while you watch the parts under for any play.

One sneaky one is the U-joint in the steering column right under the brake master.

Your alignment is super easy, only toe in is adjustable. It can be done with a tape measure in the driveway. Did they adjust it or only 'look' at it?

I set mine by measuring from the seam in the tread to the seam in the read in the front of the two tires, then measuring the seam to seam in the back side of the front tires and comparing them. You want a little less than 1/4" difference with the front measurement being the shorter one.
