I cant wait to get started. I have found the company that I am going to use to cut down the harness. Its www.lt1swap.com. I have decieded to ditch the drive by wire throttle and pick up a 99-02 throbble body with mechanical linkage. I was going to use M.O.R.E motor mounts, but they dont make them for the new vortec bolt patterns. So it looks like Novak for the mounts. I am still tossing around which tcase to use. keeping it all chevy and saving the $500 for a hunk of aluminum to adapt my dana 300, or biting the bullet and getting the adaptor and twin sticking the dana 300. I know what the consensus here will be. To keep the 300, or sell it cheap to one of you guys. I am pulling the 4.2 this weekend so I will make some progress on it soon.

I'm keeping an eye on this one too. For sure this is my next project. But I'm keeping my NV4500, so no tranny issues.

The 6 ltr Vortec is an amazing engine. I have one in my 2001 2500HD GMC. If I were ever going to put something other than an AMC in my CJ-5 it would be the 6 ltr Vortec. Please - keep us posted when you do it!

Make sure you get the gas pedel and tach module from the donor vehicle if is the drive by wire throttle. I am going to run a 4l60e tranny with my dana 300 transfer case. I will probably run camero manifolds, i've heard they hug the block quite a bit.

I'm hoping to get my 5.3 vortec running in March or so. Its been a long going project and been more expensive than I thought. I also got side tracked and began doing other stuff too.

Some issues I ran into with the 5.3/4L60E/D300 driveline:

Drivers side header (which supposedly should fit) had to be torched a bent just a bit to get out of the path of the steering shaft on my CJ7 (which I assume would be the same front end as a CJ8)

The transmission pan on the 4L60 had to be "modified" a bit to clear the front driveshaft. not sure if this can be averted by other means but it worked out OK for me.

Other than that the only issues I ran into were tracking down a few vacuum leaks on things I wasnt using (EGR, Brake Booster vacuum connection on the back of the engine).

Good luck and I cant wait to see it progress! You're going to love that engine, I can guarantee you that!

oh after the torching and modifying a brand new header to make it fit without restricting exhaust flow, I contacted novak and they say they have a rear drop header that wont interfere with the steering and will also clear the motor mounts without any problems...wish I had known that earlier. That might be worth looking into

Good luck man... looks awesome...
May want to check into fuelinjectionspecialist for the harness work also. they did my and it was great. I sis not have any of the throttle issues though, mine just hook up and run.
Final two cents.... Forward and to the driverside is the only way to go!!! if you dont understand what that means yet, you soon will.

good advice. Thanks. I am using the Novak mm so once I get my forward to back location then I will adjust to the drivers side as close to the steering shaft as possible. Progress has been slow do to funds, planning and life. Here is a few shots of whats happened recently. Out with the old.

Is that a commercial or homebrew keg? I'm sippin' on a Belgian Double Blonde I threw together around T-Day that came out great. By the way, where in AR? Wife is from LR and still has family in Conway. I have an appreciation for your lakes and hills even if the water lacks salt. Sure wish we had the hills for Jeeping.........
