valve cover gasket question

I'm putting a new valve cover gasket on my 258. It's a cork gasket, I was just wondering if I need to use any kind of gasket sealer with the gasket. Some people say you should, some say don't which is best.

Only use a TINY bit to keep the gasket from moving during reinstallation. Accepted practice is to just apply a few thin swipes on the valve cover side, press the gasket into place and wait for it to 'set up'. Then you can flip the Valve Cover over and install it without the gasket falling off.

Permatex Ultra Grey is best, by the way.
