Sorry, I meant on a standard D300 without twin sticks you will NOT get 2Lo. The only option is 4Lo.

Obviously with twin sticks you have greater choice.

You can use it for a high and low in each gear but really you would not in real world driving.

A Dana 300 is 2.62:1 so top gear in Lo would come between 1st and 2nd in HI. Therefore you would go something like on a 4 speed T176 with 3.52/2.27/1.46/1.00/3.52R:

Lo 1 9.29
Lo 2 5.95
Lo 3 3.83
Hi 1 3.52
Lo 4 2.62
Hi 2 2.27
Hi 3 1.46
Hi 4 1.00

Switching in and out of Lo at the same time as shifting gears would be a pain. Easier to go through the box in Lo, change to Hi and then start in 1st gear once you are out of the rough stuff. The D300 often baulks and you stop to wrestle it in and out anyway.

The Dana 20 is 2.46:1 so much the same.

I'm going to have to save that and put it on my dash.

Maybe get an pneumatic solenoid on on the t-case and use a real Eaton shift knob.

Do you mean use the transfer case to 'split' each of the gears in the transmission? If that's the question, then sure. My twin sticked Dana 20 has a 2wd hi/lo setting. But a real pain for regular driving, and imho, not a very good idea for that. I'd have to see what the resulting gear ratios would be. I'm thinking there would be a bunch of unfriendly gaps. But not certain. (BagusJeep - answered that for me...)

Most heavy duty trucks with twin sticks have them because they have two transmissions, mated inline. Most common: 4x4 (4 speed main/4 speed auxiliary - 16 gears) and 5x4 (5 speed main/4 speed auxiliary -20 gears).

Other medium duty trucks have 2 speed rear ends that are generally air shifted. Most common being the 4x2 (4 speed transmission/2 speed rear end), or 5x2 (5 speed transmission/2 speed rear end). Very common to 'split gears' with the 2 speed rear end.

Just to clarify, the Dana 20 is 2.46:1 if it has the Bronco slider gear conversion, otherwise it is 2.01:1. Regardless, the point is well made.
