Twin Stick

I just installed twin sticks in my 85 I had them tightened so as they would move without too much effort and have problem with both axels coming out of low fange. It seems like the boot is pushing the levers towards neutral since it did not do it till boot was installed So I had to put a little more torque on the pivit bolt. Have any of you see this or have sugestion on loosening the pivet and keeping it in gear
I tryed to copy a pic to the thread
The kit I bought is the one from 4x4 machine shop you find on e-bay

you might have to trim the sheet metal back on the opening through the floor board. I just used a cut off wheel to enlarge it on mine. if you can move the boot it will help with the pressure against the sticks...I had to make a new tunnel cover for mine, but it wasn't a big deal...

It looks like the problem is in the boot. My 85 had a one piece boot for both orig shifters. It was very close to the SM, But I heated and moved the new shifters back giving more room to the front of the SM. I have sheetmetal and tools but I will be looking for some New boots for the trany and twin sticks. Maybe some one might know where a larger twin stick boot might be found. If I find one while searching I will forward to the forum.

i have two questions.

what t-case is the twin stick for?

what manufacturer made the boots?

i ask because i have a D20 and am looking to stick it, and would like to know how that eBay setup is working. im also curious about the boot because ive only seen the Omix-Ada boot.

I've given up looking for a twin-stick for my Dana 20. I don't think they exist. The ones in the catalogs are for D300s.

I always thought it would be nice to have the option of low range 2WD, so I solved that problem by just droppin' her into 4 low without locking the hubs. It works fine, and it's easy to throw it back to 2 high (no gear bind).

Hey, I just noticed you have an '82 CJ-7. You should have a Dana 300. Currie makes the twin-stick, and it ought to be easy to find.

i couldn't find any other boot than the omix-ada boot either. i'm sure you could get an upholstery shop to sew one up for you and get a base ring from lokar or one of the other hot rod shops. i had the same problem, but was able to get the omix boot set right where they'll stay in gear ok...

my Cj has a 1972 engine and driveline. thats a 304 V8, T15 tranny, and a Dana 20 t-case. the D300 (i have one sitting in my garage) doesnt mate with the T15. no one makes an adapter for them.

D20 twin sticks are available. there are at least 2 people selling them on eBay. one of which looks to pretty nice, and only $80-100.

Novak makes a kit too.

It works great very easy to shift, Had trouble getting every thing to clear in the tunnel. I did not have to cut anything but had to heat and move the sticks around. I made a sheetmetal ring to fit inside the boot and fabed piece of ss for the outer cover on top of the boot. After some fitting I am happy with the finished job.
Here is the link to the sticks I bought.

ive been seeing D.D.Machine more and more on the forums. sounds like they have a great product. $94 (shipping included) for the D300 or the D20 setup is a good buy. comes with a boot too.
