Turning off / Turning On Problems

Alright, so I just went to the sand dunes the otherday and it was a bumpy ride and had some problems.

But now at first I had a dieseling problem where it wouldn't shut off. But i was told if it runs to hot it could do that, and since the battery fell down on the heater hose and was holding it down it was running a bit hot.

But now it wont start. I turn the key and all the guages turn radio kicks on ect. I turn the key all the way and nothing. Then I try to turn the key to just acc again and nothing turns, no radio.

So I disconnected the battery, which it was sparking like something was using it. I put the terminals back on, and it tried cranking and turning on... I quickly disconnected it and then tried to put it back on. Then it just repeated where I would turn the key then nothing.

So I disconnected the solenoid, and it made no difference. So maybe its a problem w/ the starter? I wasn't sure and figured some brain storming would be best before I rip it apart.

Sounds to me like the switch at the end of the steering column. I had a similar problem loosened the two screws holding the switch everthing started working. The key pushes a long rod through the column and engauges the switch. Some how it was tweeked just enough not to allow the rod to operate correctly.

It is located on top of the column under the dash. "Ignition switch"

actually the solenoid was stuck;
so it just kept cranking the engine.
replaced it - go to go.
