thanks again for the help, I was able to lean it out a bit and stop the smoking, just minor sputter now and then when ideling but runs pretty good down the road. I am going to consider replacing the carb with MC or Webber but I will create a seperate post for this.

That could work if the rest of the engine is 'sound' and you have no SMOG issues to deal with.
