Trying to Crank 76 CJ5 After Rebuild--Help!!

I'm at the end of the rebuild on a 76 CJ5 and having trouble getting her to start. I totally rewired the Jeep with a Painless kit. THe engine is turning over, I'm getting gas to the carb, the coil, distributor and plugs are all getting fire. But....that darn thing will not crank. I've tried starting fluid and then gas in the carb with no luck.

I'm ready to finish this build and am at my wits end on how to get her to run. Can anyone help?

sounds like a timing issue, maybee u got spark but at the wrong time. pull the plugs, put your finger over #1 hole, have somebody turn the engine by hand till u get some compression, then use a long screwdriver on top of piston as u turn by hand to get the piston at aprox top dead center. pull the dist cap the rotor should b pointing at the #1 plug wire terminal, or close to it. if not pull the dist and make it so. then crank, if no go loosen the dist, turn a little, try again. then go the other way if it doesnt fire. the only other thing i can think of would b plug wires mixed up on firing order.
