Tray thingy

What is the "tray" on the underside of a CJ tub on the drivers side rear? I have always wondered.

Exhaust heat shield?

'84 CJ-7: Yota axles (spartan locked front, e-locked rear) 4" BDS, 1" Daystar & 3/8" shackle lifts, 35" X-Terrains on steelies, YJ Tub & family roll bar, heater blower upgrade, 4.2L w/MC2100 & Team Rush, Warn 8274. Rebuilt 4.2/4.0 hybrid, AX15 and twin sticks/clocking ring waiting to go in.

The advertised position for a topless, dirty jeep girl has been filled......by my wife. Thanks to all that applied.
<------------and yes, that is her.

Without a picture I'm clueless as to what your talking about. A measurement from a point to the "tray" might help.

I meant to get a picture today. I had my tub standing up on the firewall and had a perfect chance to take one. Its on my 83 7 and my 77 5.

Like Jeepwhore says, probably the muffler heat shield. Most likely Galvanized and not painted .
And inside the frame.

It's where the Haynes manual goes! No, maybe not. I did just go look at mine though and I see what you are talking about. Got me wondering.....Rob

You'll find that it matches where the high spot is on the rear pipe curve over the axle tube......AS said exhaust shield

Makes sense. Jeeps are known for their passenger comfort and I can see they spared no expense with this.
