Transmission Cross member

Im currently doing a frame off restoration on a 1979 CJ 7 3 speed 304cui. and noticed that the transmission cross member is missing. Could any one tell me were i can locate one thanks

You do realize that the skid plate is the crossmember.....

Skid plate

Yes but there is nothing supporting the trans at all, So somethinng is missing any help would be grateful

Take a look at these threads. Sounds like you are missing the piece that attaches to tranny and bolts the trans mount and torque arm.

Your best bet would be an AMC Salvage yard, it there is one near you, If not try http://www.collinsbrosjeep.com

My CJ7 doesn't have that crossmember either. Guy had a 350 in it and took the entire drivetrain before I bought it. I just bought a 360/T18/D20 to go in it and will need to buy a cross member also. So I'm in the same bucket.

Any suggestions for a solid aftermarket skidplate/tranny crossmember?

He fab's these in 0", 1" or 1.5" drops. I had him make mine without any of the mounting holes for the transmission/torque arm drilled. This way I could align them based upon my engine placement.
