Iust bought a 1982 cj5 laredo and the throw out bearing was making some noise when i got it apart the pivot ball was missing and the return spring was all twisted up any way my question is my bellhousing has the place where the pivot ball goes is molded into the housing but i can not find where the spring attach's there is a notch cut out where the retainer goes through it but the spring that was sent to me seems to be all binded up when we try to put it in is there different types of return springs i think the trans is a t177 if any one could help i would appreciate any help

Take the bellhousing off the tranny. the spring has to go on then bolt the bellhousing back up. the spring does go in the notch.
