What's the tranny and what is it behind now? Go here and see what they have:
www.novak-adapt.com

You can usually make anything work, the question is - is it financially justified to do so?

The first thing you need to know is what the tranny is and if it's medium or light duty. Some on here may know off the top of their head, I do not. If it's medium duty, you would be fine. ONce you know the tranny, you need to research here and on the novak / AA sites to see what adapters you need to make it work. If you need an adapter for the engine and the TC, you are looking at upwards of $1000 and it probably be better to buy a different tranny. You need to consider you entire drivetrain length - Future vs Present, and determine if you will need to buy new driveshafts - More $$$ - Take it step by step, find out what you have and go from there. The guys on here will help you out a lot if you have some specific swap questions, it's tough if we don;t know what you have and what you want.

Nope, don't think it is worth your time or money to swap it. Ford made a few 5 speeds for rangers up to 85 and then made the 4 speed optional. They were light duty. I would rebuild your tranny. The amount of work it will take to be a manual is alot to gather parts, clutch linkage, pedal assembly, flywheel, driveshafts, etc, etc.

Live with it and when you have the funds, you can do it the way you want to. In my opinion, the easiest way is to buy a parts rig (rust bucket) with a good running drive train. Take what you need, sell the rest and try to break even.

Well if the info in your profile is correct it looks like you are running a Dana 300 t-case, correct? If so, and you ARE set on a manual swap, I would recommend looking for a T-176 from a CJ. They are a well built 4 speed manual that will bolt straight up to your engine and t-case (read: save $1,000). At that point you would be looking at new driveshafts at the very least. You could probably mod your current skid plate to mount to or buy one from a CJ that came with a 258/t-176 combo and it should bolt right up.

Then you are into the issue of swapping the entire pedal assembly for the clutch. Next you need to probably fab up brackets to swap the clutch linkage in among other little things. Don't know if any of this helps though....

I have most all of the manual parts I swapped out of my CJ when I changed over to the 700r4. (T-176, bell housing, flywheel, pressureplate, drive shafts, swing pedals, shifter, and a never installed hydraulic clutch kit) It was all backed up by a Dana300 (which I kept). All of it worked fine at the time I pulled it out and there are some small parts I don't have, but I can let you have it for $500. I am not too far from you, about 85 miles. You would need a clutch fork, shifter pins, pedal springs, brake swith, small bits...
