Tranny Replacement

I want to replace my 4 speed SR-4 tranny with a T5 tranny. Would this just go right in with ease ? If not, what changes need to be made ?

The jeep is a 86 CJ7, with 4 cyl motor.

Thanks

I've been curious about this same swap and wonder if all T-5s are the same?

All Jeep T-5's are the same. They are not the same as the ones in Mustangs.

Not sure if the SR-4 uses the same bellhousing.

Two types of bellhousings are used in those years of CJ's. One fits the T-176, T-177, and T-150. The other (the one you have) fits the SR-4, T-4, and the T-5. Make sure your input shaft has the same spline count (either a 10 or 14) or you can change the clutch disk to match. This would also be a good time to check/replace the clutch. I have the T-5 myself and love the 5th gear overdrive.....my 258/3.31's/stockish tires can use 5th from 45 to 100 mph. Can't imagine being on interstate with out it.
