Tons of play in steering...

Just brought my new 83 CJ7 home today and upon the first test drive noticed a ton of play in the steering...way more than other CJ's I jave owned. Where should I start with diagnosing the problem?

I would start with the tie rod ends, drag link and steering shaft. Possibly the steering box. Jack up the front end and have someone turn the steering wheel. You should be able to see where there is play.

Big Shackle Lengths can do this also. Look for close to stock or maybe + 1/2" to maybe 1".

Look at the STICKY on top of the page why my Jeep Wanders.
