Awe man, oh well. I'll need to know the LSA, intake centerline and duration at .050. I forgot how to save it in photoshop. I played around with it the other day and couldn't figure out what I did the first time, LOL.

I don't know the rest of the specs on it right now, I'll get back up with you when I get the complete spec sheet from the shop. He said it may take 2 to 3 weeks, as the shop I choose is a one man business and he had a few other projects in front of mine.

Roger that. Are you sure it's been ordered? I'm a little skeptical about 280 degrees for what it sounds like you want to do.

honestly, my little 304 I'm replacing has good power, I can only imagine what a 401 will be like. Figured if I was gonna build an engine, might as well go big, but I doubt I will notice 10 HP or 20 ft-lbs here or there. So as long as the cam gives decent power in the lower end, its gonna be such a big difference from what I have now, I won't know the difference

A stock 304 is rated at 150 hp @4200 and 245 ft-lbs @2500
A stock 401 is rated at 255 hp @4600 and 345 ft-lbs @3300

After a few upgrades, I'm probably gonna add at least 150 HP and 100 ft-lbs to what I have now with my 304
I think 300 HP+ and 400 Ft-lbs+ is very doable

You're probably right. Plenty O Power for a little Jeep. I think I just have issues, lol.

For a while, I was wondering what it would be like to bring the front tires off the ground, then I remembered what it would be like to have to replace the rest of my entire drive train when it all twisted like a pretzel.

I hear ya man. I'm sometimes guilty of the "Stroker McGurk" theory myself which states that if some is good and more is better, way too damn much must be just right.

Well its been a while since I updated this. I picked up everything from the machine shop, hoping to start pre-assembly and paint this week. Here is the story from the machine shop

Align honed
Bored/honed to 4.195" .030 over
decked to 9.190" from stock 9.205, so about .015 off the deck
cam bearings and all plugs installed

New guides
surfaced by .010"
valves ground
valve seats machined
2 new intake valves
new springs, locks, seals, rockers and bridges
new freeze plugs installed

crank ground .010 under on main and rod journals
Rods reconditioned
Pistons installed
assembly balanced first spin off 14.3 grams front and 48.2 grams rear
final balance 4.1 grams front and rear

Got everything painted today, and checked oil pump clearance in housing, got a little bit more lapping to do. Thursday I hope to give the block a good cleaning, oil it lightly and start checking main/rod bearing clearances.

Anyone know where I can get the alignment dowels for the heads? I have all 4, but one is bent and i would like to replace it, or all of them.

What color of blue is that? It looks just like the color I used on my 360.

that is Duplicolor Ford dark blue, got the idea of coloring the "401" from your pictures I've seen in the past, first picture looks a little lighter in color because of the light.

The ford Blue is a nice blue. I used it on my I6. Looks damn good!!

Thanks Ben, still got a long ways to go.
I plan on all bolt heads, brackets and maybe a few other parts to be black, we'll see how that goes.
