Tire Size

Hey guys. I installed the 4" rough country spring lift with no body lift. I was anticipating buying 33 X 12.50. Is that big enough for this amount of lift? The 30.5 x 9.50's on there now look like skateboard wheels. Any suggestions on whether 33's will look too small?

Thanks for the thread. Tires are a big investment and I want to be sure I get the right size. So the springs wil settle slightly over time?

They should. I have 33's with my 4" lift and like the looks.

what are you running for gears? that will help you with tire size.
ex. if you are running 2.73's then no to the 33's I'd look at some gear to tire charts before you buy.

Oh I see 3.08's, stick with a 31" tire.

With that auto. I would look into a R&P change to keep from burn'n up that tranny. IF you go with 33's.

4.10 would do you well
Plus save'n the 'box'.

Geesh, you guys are good. Yes, it's a tf727 with 3.08 gears. This is obviously not a daily driver. I must get higher ratio r&p's to run 33's?

Yes, to take the torque load off your tranny and better all around 'driveablity'.
FWIW: I have a 5 speed w'33's, and run 4:88 R&P.
BTW: Your front axle is a Dana 30, not 35. The 35 is a POS rear axle used on the Wrangler.
One last thing. Sure hope your run'n 1 piece axles in the rear mod 20 axle. If your not-Add a set of Mosers to the list.

It's a work in progress. Yes, I plan to upgrade the amc20. A guy wants to trade tires for a lock rite and one price axles for the rear. But now I may be researching 4.10 or higher ring and pinions.

Moser is the ONLY axle worth a dang in the 20.

MY R-Country seems more like a 6"! I tried my bro's 33 12.50 BFG A/T's & they seemed small. W/a 360-T18 & 4.10s in an 86 D44, I went w/35s. My shackles are .375" longer. Definitely change your gears....or a "safe" 50HP nitrous shot. Either way, w/o gears, bye-bye tranny

I know we have different trannys, but how are the 4.88's at highway speed @55? Thats as fast as I plan on driving it. Afraid 5.13's might make it unstreetable. Trails are about an hour away at 55 mph max. Thats the most highway driving it will see.

5.38's in my old m170 did fine at 55-60 mph. it was my daily driver for 2 years. it had 32" tires and a saturn od, and a swapped in scout 196ci 4 banger.
4.88 should do you well and for the distance you're going and 5.13's wouldn't be bad either, imho.
